Danette Wright’s Journey of Resilience and Success

For many, navigating the workforce comes with its fair share of challenges. But for individuals who are blind or visually impaired, the road to employment requires even greater resilience, adaptation, and support. Thanks to VISIONS/Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired, countless individuals have found the skills and confidence needed to thrive in their careers. One such individual is Danette Wright, whose journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of comprehensive vision rehabilitation services.

When Danette connected with VISIONS, she was eager to maintain her independence while pursuing meaningful employment. Through the organization’s Workforce Development program, she gained essential tools and training to prepare for the job market. She worked with specialists to refine her resume, develop job search strategies, and hone workplace skills. Danette’s computer training sessions helped her master programs like Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Drive—key tools for workplace efficiency. She also learned how to navigate assistive technology and mobile apps like Be My Eyes, empowering her to perform tasks with ease.

Beyond job readiness, VISIONS provided Danette with comprehensive vision rehabilitation services, including mobility training to help her travel confidently, and adaptive living techniques that ensured she could manage everyday tasks like meal preparation and organizing her home. Her participation in the Work Experience Training program placed her in a real-world job setting, where she gained hands-on experience at Phoenix House, boosting her confidence and professional skills.

Through these services, Danette discovered newfound independence and a renewed sense of purpose. Whether pursuing her passion as a recovery coach or mentoring others in adaptive technology, she is determined to pay it forward.

“Overall, VISIONS/Services has provided me with more support than I ever expected. These services have helped me embrace life as a vision-impaired person, and I feel more confident and empowered. I’m proud of all I’ve accomplished and truly grateful for everything I’ve learned.”
